About Kam K. LeangKam was born in Cambodia, but at the age of 6 he and his family escaped the clutches of the Khmer Rouge and took refuge in Thailand. Eventually, they were sponsored into the United States to start a new life. He and his family are grateful to the Borups family for giving them a chance at a new life. Kam now lives in Reno, Nevada, with his wife, daughter, and their dog, The Squeaker. In addition to his love for academics, he is very passionate about backcountry skiing, ski-mountaineering, and photography. In his free time he designs and manufacturers snow skis out of his garage, and he uses them to access the mountains near and far from his home. He has explored the mountains across the U.S. and even in Canada, South America, New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland, France, China, and Austria. He is the founder and co-owner of The Ski Lab LLC (www.skilab.com), a personal venture dedicated to the design and manufacturing of custom snow skis for backcountry access. He is also one of the co-founders of www.skibuilders.com, a non-profit online forum and web site dedicated to home-built snow skis. His personal web page is www.leang.com/kam.
