Robots
I have a couple of ideas in mind for the robot platform
I built awhile back shown below. It's a basic system with
differential drive, where the wheels on each side of the robot are attached
together via a belt. There are two Maxon motors, one for each set
of wheels. The aluminum chassis is rugged and practically bombproof.
Already on board is a line tracking sensor that I designed over two years
ago (read the article).
Machined out are sockets to fit the Sharp IR proximity sensors and there
are a total of seven sockets, which means a whole lot of proximity
sensing! The microcontroller shown on this platform is the MIT Handy
Board, which I built from a kit. I'll see how far I can take the
Handy Board, but more than likely will switch for a more powerful processor.
I'll need some brain power to get this platform up and running in style.
Some of the components I'm considering include:
-
Wireless CCD camera for video feedback
-
Seven Sharp IR proximity sensors
-
A couple of Polaroid sonar sensors
-
RF communication system
-
Some sort of navigation sensor, perhaps a digital compass
-
Maybe some accelerometers
-
and the list can go on.
When I find the time, I'll update this page and the progress of the robot.
